Cynthia Tucker is a Pulitzer Prize-winning syndicated columnist and journalist-in-residence at the University of South Alabama. Her political commentary has been featured on television and radio. A native of Monroeville, she has won several awards, including the Harper Lee Award, which celebrates writers connected to Alabama. She is the co-author, with Frye Gaillard, of The Southernization of America: A Story of Democracy in the Balance. Frye Gaillard, Writer in Residence at the University of South Alabama, is the author of more than 30 books, including his most recent, The Southernization of America: A Story of Democracy in the Balance, co-authored with South Alabama Journalist in Residence Cynthia Tucker. Gaillard is also author of such award-winning titles as A Hard Rain: America in the 1960s; Cradle of Freedom: Alabama and the Movement That Changed America; Watermelon Wine: The Spirit of Country Music; and a novella for young readers, Go South to Freedom. His byline has appeared in The Guardian, The Bitter Southerner, The Oxford American, Parade, The Washington Post and other publications. He is a native of Mobile.
